Watford FC to host the first crypto cup tournament

Watford Football Club, who plays in England’s top division of football, have come together with their jersey sponsor, crypto sportsbook Sportsbet.io, to announce a first crytocurrency-themed meetup at the end of the English Premier League 2019/20 season.

On May 16th, the meetup, centered around a football competition for charity called the Crypto Cup, will take place on the home ground of Watford FC, Vicarage Road. The Vic, as Hornet fans call their stadium, is already a famous ground this year, with supporters witnessing a 3-0 demolition of Manchester United among many historic wins here.

This May, Vicarage Road will see Crypto Cup 2020 welcome all manner of cryptosphere participants, from business people, tech developers, and everyday enthusiasts, coming together to meet and talk about the most relevant topics for the industry, apart from creating more buzz as the nascent tech continues to grow in mainstream awareness.

Watford FC Commercial Director Paul O’Brien expressed excitement at such an event, being the first of its kind in popular footballing terms. He said that the Crypto Cup gave nod to the fact that Watford FC has seen many crypto enthusiasts walk through its doors, ever since partnering with crypto-led Sportsbet.io, who has introduced all manner of Bitcoin themes.

The Bitcoin Box and Bitcoin billboard at the stadium can only be bought with Bitcoin, while the online store welcomes Bitcoin payment, and finally, the Bitcoin logo features prominently on Watford FC’s sleeves. Paul has high hopes for the event, saying:

“Now in May, we will support this partnership with a special day which will allow the crypto community to play at the Vic, whilst immersing themselves in discussions, education and fun.”

Sportsbet.io CEO Tim Heath echoed these sentiments, saying that football has grown into a huge platform for crypto promotion, and with Watford’s Bitcoin logo featured prominently on players’ sleeves, he believed the partnership had taken Bitcoin awareness to a new level.

Tim reflects:

“After witnessing what an impact football sponsorship has had on raising awareness for cryptocurrency, we’re really looking forward to taking it even further with Watford FC. Being part of the conversation on the day with both fans and experts, exploring what the future of crypto adoption looks like and enjoying the Vicarage Road experience is a brilliant opportunity for all involved.”

Prior to the meetup, the Crypto Cup is, of course, the main event. Several teams, each representing a charity, will gather for a round-robin format to take home the Crypto Cup trophy. A special highlight will be a team talk, delivered to every team by a Watford Legend!
