Blackjack games are now commonplace across the cryptocurrency gambling world. Many of them come with side-bets woven into their design – admittedly, not all of them support such features. Are these side-bets worth having a crack at, though, and why might you want to be a touch hesitant about using them? Join us as we explore the answers right here.
As touched on before, not all Bitcoin blackjack games support side-bets. For instance, when you bet on high roller blackjack, you may notice that such side-bets have been removed from the tables. This is because the software provider doesn’t want to risk you taking a punt and coming away with a considerable prize. After all, some side-bets can payout considerably more than winning a conventional hand with a blackjack. However, this isn’t overly unfair because blackjack side-bets are tricky to win in the first place.
It is not uncommon to find two specific types of blackjack side-bets in games more than others. These include 21+3 and Pairs Plus. The 21+3 Bet sort of mixes together the rules of blackjack and three card poker when it comes to your initial two card-hand and the dealer’s upturned card. If there’s a Flush, Straight, Straight Flush or Suited Three-of-a-Kind there, you can win anything from 5:1 up to 100:1.
By contrast, Perfect Pairs sees you looking to find a Mixed Pair, Coloured Pair or Perfect Pair in the first two cards. A Mixed Pair (same value but different colour and suit), Coloured Pair (same number, same colour, different suit), and Perfect Pairs (identical cards) are formed with your first two cards, and pay out at 5:1, 10:1 and 30:1, respectively.
In most Bitcoin blackjack games, you’re looking at a total side-bet cost of $1 per hand. This is placed separately and doesn’t form a part of your hand. However, some games let you get creative and raise the stakes. Most, though, have a $1 minimum limit.
Blackjack side-bets may seem appealing because their fate doesn’t rest with what happens in the game, even if they are tied to your hand. In short, you can win a blackjack side-bet even if you lose the hand. You could also win both, and you can win your hand but lose your side bet. The ability to pluck a win from the jaws of defeat is appealing, but that doesn’t necessarily make them worth it, as you will see next.
If you are using a betting strategy such as the Martingale System, then you should never place side-bets, as this messes up the system. Side-bets are also bad for business, in that they are unlikely to come good, and cost you quite a bit when used regularly. Because of this, we don’t recommend using side-bets to play blackjack online.
