IBM Studios, a gigantic space in fast-developing Italy, will open its doors this March to welcome specialists in AI, blockchain, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and many other digital technologies. The initiative is aimed at facilitating the process of the digital transformation of the country’s systems.
Four thousand square meters, with ten rooms on three floors, will host two thousand consultants, who will work to create solutions for artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, IoT, security and quantum computing. The IBM Studios will be situated in Piazza Gae Aulenti in Milan, designed by architect Michele De Lucchi. The official opening will take place in the spring of 2019.
With a total financial commitment of over 40 million euros over a period of 9 years, IBM Studios will be the glass house of technological innovation. The place is set to boost the highest level of digital knowledge and encourage collaboration with companies of all types and sizes, including local associations, institutions, universities, research centers, developers and students. Moreover, the fact that Italy has devised an effective legal framework for blockchain, cryptocurrency, and other innovative technologies will create favorable conditions for quicker development of the digital field.
"The structure will be open to anyone who wants to have a leading role in the change that this country needs. In fact, we live in an unprecedented historical moment in which exponential technologies can simplify bureaucratic processes, foster efficiency, track products made in Italy and thus provide a boost to the relationship of trust with consumers,” explains Enrico Cereda, president and CEO of IBM Italy.
The IBM Studios engine will be powered by skills, meaning that the youngest will be training hard and grow over time, while professionals will be preparing to be placed at the service of the vast national ecosystem. This is to be brought into life by the number of specific areas: IBM Cloud Garage, Strategy & Design Lab and IBM Client Center.
IBM Cloud Garage represents an experimentation center for cloud application development and, at the same time, a methodology that combines innovative approaches such as Design Thinking and Agile. This section stimulates different kinds of companies to embody innovation. On the one hand, it fosters collaboration between product managers, software architects and professionals, while on the other, develops strategies and prototypes on public and hybrid cloud models that provide the potential for artificial intelligence and data development.
The Strategy & Design Lab works on the creation of customized experiences and services for each type of industry with a specialization in co-creation techniques, which are able to meet the needs of entrepreneurs and professionals. It provides companies with the stimuli, skills and passion to reinvent themselves by facilitating cultural and technological change through advanced analysis and a deep understanding of customer needs.
The IBM Client Center is composed of 16 structures and represents the meeting place, where different businesses exchange their experiences. This will also be the most popular and open place of the structure, the one destined to highlight not only the initiatives of IBM but also those of the whole enlarged ecosystem that can contribute to the country's innovation.
